Today I have finished watching the first book of North and South, and it’s been a great experience. It’s a shame that the rest isn’t easily available in Poland, but even though Book 1 is only a prelude to most events, in itself it still is an 8.5/10 watch imo

A quick text I sent to a friend who has decided to become Catholic, and asked a question about how to explain faith/works to their spouse (please pray for them): “One way I like to summarize this is: Catholic and historic Christian belief is that we are “saved” fully if and only if we hear “well done, good and faithful servant” from Our Lord Himself. In the parable of the talents, Our Lord gives gifts to various workers (which they could not earn themselves), and they each end up in heaven or hell based on whether they produced fruit from those gifts. It’s not about “earning” salvation (which we can never do); it’s about responding in love to the transformative gifts given to us by Christ. And in every age, the saints and martyrs have ALL believed that if we receive this gift—which transforms us and makes us a new creature—and do not persist in obeying Christ until the end (which is only possible BECAUSE He has transformed us, through no works of our own)—then we will be lost.”
