Almost agreed until "Ginny ending up with Harry is out of nowhere " troop floated once again. Ginny ending up with Harry was planned long before Ron and Hermione according to the author herself. And the subtle hints were always there.

@Chazfandom @turricidio @iheartttpd_ That's where you're wrong. Sure, broad strokes it's the same, but the little details and small things that helped to build it all up are missing. Voldemort's death and harry snapping the wand and not repairing his own are also different and changes an overall feeling. It lacks.

And JKR’s quote about Harmione is taken out of context constantly, she was saying that by the typical conventions of the genre, it should have happened. I used to think this too until I re-read the books.
The movies failed to capture Ron’s intelligence and charm. Hermione, an only child from a muggle family, would be drawn to the large, magical Weasley family. She also is not meant to be drop-dead gorgeous like Emma Watson, and Ron is supposed to be very tall and become quite attractive. Her relationship with Ron is a slow burn, but it makes complete sense.

In the modern day absolutely, but back then we didn’t have twitter & all these horrible woke people running around. We had myspace roleplay & fanmade websites & we weren’t told what to think by some algo. I remember how it was. I saw a lot of movie watchers who would come at the book fans in the comments for shipping the proper ships.
That said, I’m sure a small percentage of book readers did ship other ships besides the obvious ones (there is always the oddball or two in every fandom) but the vast majority of us shipped romione & hinny back then. We were in constant arguments with movie fans who refused to read the books. 🤣 Most movie fans couldn’t stand ginny which was fair, she was lame in the movies. They didn’t understand what they were missing by not reading those books.

Harry spent seven entire books going after every other girl at Hogwarts while never expressing the slightest interest in Hermione. Harry literally has more chemistry with Myrtle the toilet ghost than he does with Hermione. But Ron was infatuated from the moment he laid eyes on her.
Did you not read “Goblet of Fire”? Ron was playing mind games with Hermione by not asking her to the Yule Ball and then Victor Krum asked her first, and she accepted, and Ron absolutely lost his mind.
Then Ron and Harry asked Parma and Parvati but completely ignored them at the dance because Harry was obsessed with Cho Chang and Ron was obsessed with Hermione.
The entire Black Lake challenge was about Harry and Ron being cucked, because Cedric was sent to rescue Cho, Krum was sent to rescue Hermione, and Ron had to be rescued and Harry had to rescue Ron.
Also, in “Order of the Phoenix,” Rita Skeeter wrote in the Daily Prophet that Hermione was Harry’s girlfriend and Harry was icked out while Ron was jealous and furious.
If you were shipping Harry with Hermione, that is your fault, because it was never once implied by the source material. Ron and Hermione ending up together is their whole seven-book arc.
