30 May 1381. The English Peasants’ Revolt began. It grew out of a gradual build up of socio-economic tensions, but the final trigger was the attempt to collect unpaid poll taxes in Brentwood. The revolt then spread across the south-east region.

Some say we have too much Tudor stuff out there. I say, we don’t have enough. After all, most people couldn’t tell you who Elizabeth I’s mother was or the difference between Mary I and Mary Queen of Scots.

Stunning light in the apse of the Trinity Church of the Abbaye aux Dames, Caen. The Abbey was founded by Matilda of Flanders, wife of William the Conqueror and later Queen of England. Her tomb is in the chancel. #caen #abbayeauxdames #Normandy

King John died #OnThisDay 1216. He lied constantly, fathered an unknown number of illegitimate children, alienated his European allies, ignored the Rule of Law, and was eventually brought down by a rebellion of his own barons.

Our Chairman of Governors and former Black Rod, Lt. Gen. David Leakey, and many other members of the Sherborne community queued to pay their respects to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II lying in state. A surprise interview took place: news.com.au/entertainment/… @newscomauHQ

That service was a shining example of why we should treasure music in schools - and why we cannot measure the worth of an education against "future earnings". Everything that humans value can be expressed in music. It's a source of riches beyond anything captured in GDP.
Anna Lapwood@annalapwood

What an incredible thing @WAbbeyChoir @ChapelRoyalHCP James O’Donnell & Peter Holder are doing today. Perfectly judged music to reflect & absorb the grief of a nation. Let us never take for granted the professionalism & fearlessness of our musicians.

Thought I’d share some pics from a sunny Hampton Court today. The only thing missing is a nice chilled glass of Pimms…but then, I am at work 🍸@HRP_palaces #hamptoncourt

Esher Palace, Surrey. Henry VIII seized the property from Wolsey, and resided here while Jane Seymour gave birth to his longed-for son, Edward VI, at nearby Hampton Court. He retreated here to mourn her death two weeks later. All that survives is the wonderful Wayneflete Tower.
