A few impressions of a recent game of "Muß!", the Conflict Simulation Group's naval wargame set in the age of sail and steam. In this case, assuming an outbreak of a major conflict as a result of the Russo-Turkish war in 1878, a small Royal Navy squadron on reconnaissance ...

@matabele_ant ... located there. We just wanted to add one additional element of chance to it. In broad daylight the game would probably be over during turn 1... 😁

@matabele_ant Good question! So the overall idea is that this is a night attack, and that the 12.5in and 10in RMLs would not be able to engage small, fast moving targets like torpedo boats. By 1893, Hurst castle had 6 QF guns as well, so in reality the QF battery in the game would be ...

@CoSimG's family of Mini-Kriegsspiele is growing - "Torpillage!", a Kriegsspiel about a French torpedo boat attack on Royal Navy ironclads in the Solent, set in 1883, is currently getting playtested.

The family includes "Invasion 1883" (linkedin.com/pulse/invasion…), "Augusta" (linkedin.com/pulse/finding-…) and "PVNICA" about naval operations in the First Punic War. More to follow...

Students of @AlteGJMU playing @CoSimG's "The Med", a Micro-Wargame about naval combat in the Mediterranean in the 1880s. Its main purpose is explaining how the French could manage to launch an invasion - which is the subject of "Invasion 1883", @CoSimG's Mini-Kriegsspiel.

This week, a US colleague visited the wargames design course at @AlteGJMU; we played both Mini-Kriegsspiele by @CoSimG. Here are some impressions of Invasion 1883; the French side won in round 6 by capturing London.

The British have recaptured Birkenhead! At @HSUHamburg, this term's big game of @CoSimG's Pluie de Balles is underway. With 40 participants, the wargaming course is currently among the largest wargaming courses regularly run at a Bundeswehr institution.

Yesterday, in my wargames design course, students of @AlteGJMU experimented with one of @CoSimG's simple facilitation-training games, in this case "Augusta" which is based on the naval war of 1870/71.

Students of @AlteGJMU play @CoSimG's Invasion 1883 for the first time, experiencing both the uncertainty of fog-of-war and the responsibility of facilitators.

Some impressions of @CoSimG's "Invasion 1883", the simple Mini-Kriegsspiel developed primarily as an instrument for training facilitators, played this week during a training event at a German logistics unit, Logistikbataillon 471.

@smarkg52 Indeed! We were at NATO JWC Stavanger in June running a big (3+1 teams on each side) Kriegsspiel, and it was quite an experience for everybody (including us - they certainly kept us busy!).

@Savallsblog @warbases Oh, and honour whom honour is due - these tokens were not produced by us but by the production team, who invested time, blood and tears to get them into shape.

@Savallsblog Indeed, these turned out nicely. They are made by printing the token design on labels, cutting these and then sticking them onto lasercut 3mm MDF counters from @warbases. One could of course simply print onto cardboard, but we find the MDF ones slightly easier to handle.

Some impressions of what was likely the largest physical representation of the Battle of Königgrätz using the Meckel-type Kriegsspiel in several generations. This took place last month during the production of a documentary of the battle.
