CA consumers are already paying the price for the state’s cost-of-living crisis. Now, abusive lawsuits under a 1960s law are driving up legal costs for businesses and nonprofits — costs that often get passed on to consumers. It’s time to ReformCIPA.com

Poll finds that a majority of Californians want lower taxes, consistent with past findings. (The question suggests that higher taxes go hand in hand with more services, and vice versa, but due to inefficiency, waste, etc, this is not necessarily the case.) ppic.org/publication/pp…

Residents overwhelmingly passed Prop 36 — but you wouldn’t know it if you looked at our streets today. Rather than carry out the will of the voters, Sacramento has refused to fund the measure, effectively setting it up to fail. That’s not what the people voted for — and it’s not a decision lawmakers should get to make after the fact. When voters approve a measure, implementation isn’t optional. Budgets are a reflection of our values. And if we’re not willing to prioritize public safety, treatment, and accountability with real dollars, then we’re choosing dysfunction over results.

It’s been a year since Prop 36 took effect in California, giving repeat thieves & drug offenders the option to get treatment instead of a felony. How many cases ended up that way? Who knows. @LyseeMitri reports statewide data is unclear & inconsistent: kcra.com/article/prop-3…

My column in @ocregister. The budget process isn't just a joke, there IS no budget process. "Jon Coupal: Why does California even bother with a budget?" @hjta. ocregister.com/2026/01/19/jon…

Running a small business often means tight profit margins. When personal injury lawyers target small businesses, it drives insurance costs up, pushing small businesses owners to the brink. See the real costs in PACT’s new documentary:

More evidence that tax increases aren't necessary: CA general fund revenue exceeded budget projections by $6.5 billion (9.7%) during first 4 months of fiscal year, @CAController Malia Cohen reported today. Expenditures were $3.4 billion (3.9%) higher than projected, Cohen added.

Just In: California faces $18 billion budget shortfall this upcoming year, the state’s @LAO_CA announces. That’s billions more than state leaders expected. LAO points to state programs that are costing more, and federal govt impacts on health spending. kcra.com/article/califo…

California has the third-worst tax climate in the U.S., the D.C.-based Tax Foundation reports: "California combines high tax rates with an uncompetitive tax structure, yielding one of the worst rankings on the Index. The state has a great deal going for it, with its mild climate, excellent research universities, and the ongoing agglomeration effects of Silicon Valley (which is seeing a resurgence with the rise of generative AI), but a tax code that is uncompetitive and threatens to get worse is increasingly driving jobs to other states." taxfoundation.org/research/all/s…

Thank you, @CAgovernor for vetoing AB 699, a bill that would have reduced transparency for new tax measures.
