Claude Code is fastest when I give it the smallest possible task. "Build the dentist search" gets me a confident mess. "Add a neighborhood filter to this one component" gets me something I can ship. The skill isn't prompting. It's slicing the work small.

The directory's 598 dentist profiles live in one Supabase table. The thing that saved me: Row Level Security. Public can read a profile and insert an appointment request — and that's it. Can't read other people's requests, can't edit a listing. Three RLS policies. No backend code to leak.

"Deep cleaning" gets recommended a lot in LA. Sometimes it's needed. Sometimes it's upsell. Rule of thumb: if you've never been told you have gum pockets >4mm, ask why now. A second opinion is cheaper than a scaling you didn't need.

Solo dev, no QA team. My safety net is one rule: every change goes through a branch and a PR, even when the only reviewer is me. Writing the PR description forces me to explain the change, and half my bugs get caught in that paragraph. That discipline is what ships the directory.

I'm doing a Build in Public series for a dentist directory in LA. It's going to help both the customers and the dentist in the area. I'm going to make a promise to make it ad free forever.
