Women of Bletchley Park. Meet Phyllis Dalton (Barton). Phyllis served at Bletchley Park from June 1944 to 1945 as a WRNS Bombe operator in Hut 11A. Billeted at Crawley Grange and Woburn Abbey, she worked with the machines that helped break enemy codes during the final stages of the war. After the war, Phyllis built an extraordinary career as a theatrical costume designer. She won Academy Awards for her work on Doctor Zhivago and Henry V, along with multiple BAFTAs including for Oliver!. She was appointed MBE in 2002. From codebreaking to costume design, her story is one of creativity, precision and lasting impact.
