Hahaha! "Hungary has never really mattered to us," "We should forget about Europe," "We’ve always been at war with Hungary," "Hungarians are Ukrainians!" - Russian propagandist Solovyev rolled out a new propaganda script.
Anton Gerashchenko@Gerashchenko_en

"Russians, go home": Orbán has lost. First and foremost, this is a defeat for Russia. And this is already its third defeat, following Romania and Moldova (unfortunately, Georgia has not yet managed to break free from Russia's grip). Undoubtedly, with a democratic Hungary, the EU will become stronger. Russia has lost the ability to block NATO and EU decisions through Hungary. Orbán's defeat will weaken other pro-Russian politicians in Europe. It is also worth highlighting the outstanding work and role of independent media outlets, journalists, and bloggers who stood up to the direct interference of Russian political strategists and special services in Hungary's electoral process. Journalists demonstrated the effectiveness of fact-checking and quickly debunked AI-generated fakes (for example, about "Ukrainian cash-in-transit workers"). How will Russia act given Orbán's defeat? It will continue hybrid warfare within the EU, especially in countries where support for Putin remains high. Russia is counting on a prolonged war in Iran, and that it will trigger an economic crisis in Europe. Moscow will continue to restrict internet freedom in Russia. It will likely limit Russians' ability to leave the country and travel abroad. It will further mobilize the population. Putin will strengthen law enforcers and replace leaders so that no one can claim power. What conclusions regarding Hungary are important? A democratic society can prevail. I wish prosperity to the people of Hungary.

"In Hungary, they failed to fully bring the media and internet under control," said Russian propagandist Solovyev while analyzing the elections in Hungary. And I will say it again - democratic elections took place thanks to independent media, journalists, and bloggers.

The European Commission continues firmly taking the position against Russian participation in the Venice Biennale. Thank you! The European Commission has initiated the procedure to freeze €2 million for the Venice Biennale in response to the reopening of the Russian pavilion. "In our view, the fact that, in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the Biennale accepted the participation of Russian artists as a 'government delegation' <...> implies that the Biennale appears to have accepted indirect support from the Russian government in exchange for granting a cultural platform, in violation" of Article 5 of the 2014 sanctions regulation against Moscow, the letter said. The EC has given Biennale 30 days to clarify its position. In the absence of a turnaround, it risks losing a grant of €2 million allocated until 2028.

A bold and right move from the European Commission: ‼️The European Commission will suspend a €2 million grant awarded to Venice's Biennale art exhibition if Russia participates in this year's edition, the EC spokesperson Thomas Regnier said. "The Commission condemns the decision by the Foundation Biennale to allow Russia to participate in the 2026 Biennale art exhibition. Why? Because culture in ‌Europe should promote and safeguard democratic values. It should foster open dialogue, diversity, and freedom of expression. These values are currently, in today's Russia, not honoured," he said.

When President Trump talks about a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a way to "kill Iran's economy," we need to remember who stands behind Iran's resilience. Above all, it is China, and not only as a buyer of oil, but as a strategic partner that benefits from Iran remaining a destabilizing force in the Middle East. Russia, of course, as well, but Russia is bogged down in Ukraine. Iran is a tool. For China, Iran serves one simple purpose: to keep the Middle East in a state of chronic instability, which costs the US money, attention, and reputation. ◾️ First, the Iran war is pulling American potential away from Asia right now. The US has deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group, two destroyers, two naval task forces, and Patriot and THAAD systems to the Middle East, depleting its stockpile of Tomahawk cruise missiles, which are critical for a potential Taiwan scenario. ◾️ Second, the crisis translates into a blow to the American authority and concessions. Every Middle Eastern war weakens the trust of Asian allies in the United States. Japan and South Korea are already experiencing delays in deliveries of ordered US weapons. Taiwan is watching as Washington trades off its security for the sake of a summit with Beijing: Trump delayed a multi-billion-dollar arms package to Taiwan so as not to jeopardize the summit with President Xi. ◾️ Third, China is the sole beneficiary of the oil blockade of Iran. Despite sanctions, Iran earned $54 billion in 2022 and $53 billion in 2023. Where does this oil go? To China. More than 90% of Iranian oil exports are absorbed by the Chinese market, primarily through networks of small independent oil refineries in Shandong province. The scheme is worked out down to the last detail. Iranian tankers turn off their transponders, transfer oil "ship-to-ship" off the coast of Malaysia, relabel the cargo as Malaysian or Indonesian, and settle payments in yuan through small banks outside the dollar infrastructure. In 2025, these shadow tankers made over 1,500 voyages from Iran to China. ◾️ Fourth, Iran is increasingly serving as a testing ground for China's indirect military-technical support. According to US officials, the Chinese company SMIC supplied Iranian military structures with equipment for chip production and, likely, technical training. Ships carrying sodium perchlorate - a key component of solid rocket fuel - were set to depart from Chinese ports. Iran was also nearing a deal to purchase Chinese CM-302 supersonic anti-ship missiles, which pose a direct threat to US ships in the Gulf. And US intelligence is now recording possible preparations to transfer MANPADS to Iran via third countries. Some claims regarding deeper support, particularly concerning BeiDou and Chinese air defense systems, remain disputed, but the overall direction is clear: China is helping Iran not only survive under pressure but also raise the cost of the US military presence in the region. Therefore, a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is not pointless in terms of pressuring Iran, as it could physically cut off a significant portion of exports that ultimately go to China. But it is a crude instrument: it hurts not only Iran and China, but the entire energy system of the region, global prices, and US allies. That is precisely why this move is both powerful and strategically toxic.

Chancellor Merz: we are elevating our bilateral relations with Ukraine to the level of a strategic partnership. During a joint press-conference with President Zelenskyy, he said: Our cooperation [with Ukraine] is now more effective, our partnership based on trust is stronger, and our friendship and the bonds between our societies are deeper than ever. In this regard, it is only logical that we are today elevating our bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership, for we want - even more so than in the past - to learn from one another and invest in our shared future.

World Aquatics has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian senior athletes to compete in its events under their national flags, with their uniforms and anthems. For the past three years, they have participated as neutral individual athletes, later being joined by teams. It is reported that athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete only after passing at least four successive anti-doping controls. Comment from me: Russia remains the aggressor and the country that keeps waging a war and genocide in Ukraine. Russian sports has close ties with Russian politics as has been proven by numerous investigations.

Now isn't this a peach. A general who presumably read the NATO charter is upset that a defensive alliance didn't rush to join an offensive war the United States chose to start. Quick civics reminder for Lt. Gen. Kellogg: Article 5, the one clause that makes NATO worth having, says that an armed attack against one member shall be considered an attack against all. It was invoked exactly once in NATO's history: after September 11, 2001, when the United States was attacked on its own soil. European allies then spent years bleeding in Afghanistan alongside American troops in response to that attack. Nobody asked whether the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes made it worth their while. Fast forward to 2025: the United States initiates military action against Iran. Iran didn't attack a NATO member. Article 5 was not triggered. But Washington decided to attack, at the behest of Israel. And now a senior American official is on the internet complaining that the defensive alliance he wants to reform didn't treat an American offensive operation as a collective defense obligation. The audacity of demanding that allies rewrite a 75-year-old security architecture, one that has kept Europe at peace longer than at any point in modern history, because they correctly identified that "America started a war" and "America was attacked" are two constitutionally different situations. Perhaps the general could explain which part of "defensive alliance" was unclear.

Chancellor Merz: I am personally very grateful and relieved that there was such a clear election result yesterday in Hungary. This shows that our democratic societies are evidently much more resilient against Russian propaganda and other external interference in such elections. Right-wing populism suffered a serious defeat in Hungary yesterday, and this concerns not just Hungary. A very clear signal is coming from Hungary against right-wing populism worldwide.

The United States will begin implementing a blockade of Iranian ports on April 13. In doing so, the US aims to prevent Iran from collecting fees from shipping companies for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and to deprive it of revenue from oil sales. US Central Command forces will begin enforcing a blockade on all ships entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas at 10 AM ET. The blockade will apply to vessels from all nations and affect all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. However, CENTCOM has stated that it will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Navy commander Shahram Irani called President Trump's statements "ridiculous and funny."

Geopoltical "analysis" from a Russian 'Z-blogger' Pozdnyakov. Somehow, he doesn't note the successes of the great geostrategic tsar Putin up until the last paragraph (added for personal safety?) "Where we've [Russia] lost our influence: - Syria - Venezuela - Hungary - Azerbaijan - Moldova Where we're [Russia] close to losing our influence: - Armenia (not completely lost, but significantly weakened) - Cuba (on the brink) - Kazakhstan (not completely lost, but significantly weakened) - Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (have become more multi-vector, less dependent on Moscow) What about China: China hasn't acted at all, said, "To hell with it," and has separated itself from the whole affair. What about Trump: He turned out to be an empty talk, a pushover, a clown whose opinion nobody gives a f*ck about. He is perceived as an old man angrily ranting, but others show understanding and don't get mad at him. What about us: And we, with Russia, FSB, and Putin, remain as we were! And we will stick together and stand up to any challenges!!! Putin is strength! The FSB is power! Russia is victory!"
