I ❤️ book club! The book clubs at both of my schools are filled with some of the smartest, funniest, most amazing kids I could ever ask for. Today, the DZ Book Club is excited to dive into their next read: Scary Stories for Young Foxes!

It was a busy third six weeks in the JMS and DZ libraries! There were research, writing, and STEAM lessons. There were parent training sessions. There were book fairs. And students were at the heart of it all, exploring and learning every step of the way!

Hour of code continued last week at de Zavala! Some 6th grade classes worked to code Ozobot Evos to “the moon”, while others met the snow plow coding challenge. Plus I got the privilege of showing library resources to parents with our amazing parent liaison, Mrs. Huerta!

The DZ Library book fair is in full swing this morning!

🎉 Congratulations to our 24-25 DZ Spanish & English Spelling bee Champions! 🎉 Shout out to our incredible Instructional Leadership Team for making this an amazing experience for our students!

Spanish Spelling Bees were kicked off today at @deZavalaMS. These two young ladies had us on the edge of our seats! @iisdbil_esl can't wait to see you represent your school at the District Spanish Spelling Bee in January!

Check out what’s been happening in the DZ library this past six weeks! From book clubs and esports to research skills and book talks, it’s been a great few weeks of learning and engagement!

Last week in the DZ Library was packed with learning! 8th graders explored The Outsiders through interactive stations on music, fashion, and culture, building key background knowledge. Later, 6th graders developed new research skills in an engaging escape room challenge!

It was a good week in the DZ Library. Got to help classes select books, present an SEL activity to the life class, give book talks to Ms. Walther’s classes, and host about 70 students in after-school library clubs. Grateful for these connections and excited for what’s next!

First six weeks at DZ in the books!

Last week, after-school library clubs kicked off at de Zavala MS! We had our first esports and book club meetings, and it was great seeing so many students stay after to be part of these awesome groups! Looking forward to more exciting sessions ahead!

Writing workshop that grouped GT, Honors, and OL students for an ECR. At one point, we had over 75 students working in small groups at one time, but they were ROCKING it! Students learned from each other and had the most amazing conversations about writing. GROWTH in progress!
