tbh this is why I've never seriously pursued show-running: the idea of frontloading days, weeks, months, years of unpaid labour just for the chance to maybe get picked up (read: paid) just... doesn't make sense to me. my bills need to be paid NOW - not maybe someday if I'm lucky!
