You're overreaching. You can criticize specific U.S. policies (including sanctions on Cuba) without pretending there’s no difference in baseline freedoms. The United States does have a much stronger record on civilian freedoms and individual rights than Cuba—both historically and today. None of this means the U.S. is flawless or immune from criticism—it clearly isn’t. But saying it has no high ground at all on civilian freedom ignores very real, measurable differences between an open, pluralistic system and an authoritarian one.
