You have to understand that baked into the Palestinian identity is resistance itself. It doesn’t know how to exist without being in opposition to the “occupiers.” It doesn’t know how to express itself outside of conflict. When the slogan “free free Palestine”becomes totally synonymous with your identity, what happens when you’re finally… free? What would the keffiyeh even mean? The hardest thing is constructing a positive identity - something you’ve been trying to articulate with the British case. It’s infinitely harder for the Palestinians because their identity has been stoked and manufactured by grievance and hatemongers since its inception. This is the most difficult part once the war is over - and I don’t hear anyone really talking about it yet
