Ask him how many Indian companies are in Korea? I can understand being bullied on trade by US/China but why are we allowing a vassal state to push us around on trade. What is this sudden urge in India to become a "market" for every country in the world and an exporter to none?
Shashank Mattoo@MattooShashank

"The President of South Korea was actually surprised that there are only 700 Korean companies in India. He would like to see a much bigger number - perhaps 10 times that number. We discussed issues Korean companies want resolved," says MEA on S. Korean President's visit

After sunset, thermal plants scramble to ramp up and the same exchange charges ₹5.3 per unit. The spread between solar hours and non-solar hours is now 1500x. Storage is the only fix and India needs 74 GW of it by 2032. Right now it has almost nothing. peak demand grew 0.8% all of FY26. slowest in six years. everyone thought cooling demand had hit a ceiling. then march 10 came and the grid touched 238 GW in one afternoon. one freak heatwave after a cold spell and the whole muted growth story fell apart. now summer forecast says 270 GW. el niño probability is rising. India's power problem is not generation. It is timing. Solar floods the grid at noon and crashes prices to zero. By 6 pm it vanishes and thermal has to cover a 40 GW ramp in two hours. Now demand peaks twice, once under the sun and once after dark, and neither peak matches the other. Battery storage would fix this but India has under 1 GW deployed against a target of 74 GW. Every summer from here gets harder until that gap closes.

No matter how many days in advance you try to book tickets, all major trains are always full. You can’t get a reservation. Most of the time, you can’t even book tatkal. The only option left is to travel like an animal in overcrowded trains. Humiliation. Flights are costly and don’t connect everywhere, so that’s not a real option either. And in the end, the failure of government makes citizens live like animals. No matter how much taxes you pay or how good a citizen you are, living like this in the country makes a part of you lose hope every day. I know nothing will change. It’s not just me. Millions go through this daily, especially working men and college students.

Most Indians aren’t aware of this: Indians use crude oil most efficiently in the world. • 🇮🇳 India: Population: 1.43 billion Consumption per day: 5.3 million barrels Per capita consumption: 1.35 barrels/year • 🇺🇸 USA: Population: 333 million Consumption per day: 20 million barrels Per Capita consumption: ~22 barrels/year. • 🇨🇳 China: Population: 1.41 billion Consumption per day: 15.5 million barrels. Per capita consumption: ~4 barrels/year. • 🇯🇵 Japan: Population: 125 million Consumption per day: 3.3 million barrels. Per capita consumption: ~9.6 barrels/year. • 🇩🇪 Germany: Population: 84 million Consumption per day: 2.4 million barrels. Per capita consumption: ~10.4 barrels/year. • 🇬🇧 UK: Population: 67 million Consumption per day: 1.5 million barrels. Per capita consumption: ~8.2 barrels/year. 🔰 India has the lowest per capita oil consumption among all G20 nations. This also means that: • Indians have less car ownership (4%) • Indians have less Per Capita Income ($3050) 🔰 When our Per Capita Income reaches the levels of China ($13,300): India will need 3x of current oil imports. That is: • 15 million barrels of Crude per day. • 5.5 billion barrels of Crude per day. At $70 per barrel: $383 billion per year. • 9% of our current GDP ($4.2 Trillion) • 2% of our future GDP ($20 Trillion)

India is a cheap country to survive, but an expensive country to live. This is what's causing so much cognitive dissonance. Food and survival is cheap, but education, healthcare, rents are all expensive and govt services aren't keeping up.

@fintech_shark The least in-hand salary as of now in central govt (pay level 1) is around 29K in-hand. That's not some huge amount. Also only 3% annual hike is done, other than DA. So when they are pushing for 69K, govt might start with 40k.

India pays workers about ₹20K/month. China pays ₹55K/month. So we think: India is cheaper. But wait. China workers do 2–5x more work. That means: 1 worker in China = 2-5 workers in India So per product, China can still be cheaper. Now look at Vietnam: - Pays around ₹17–20K/month - Workers are faster than India - And goods come to India at low/zero duty So companies think: “Why make here… when we can import?” Now you see the real issue: India is not losing on wages. India is losing on speed and output. Cheap is not enough. You have to be fast.
