last year i wanted to get an iphone, not because i needed it. just for the plot.
iโve used android all my life.
i love gadgets, but iโm very calculated with how i buy them.
i just wanted to feel the iphone processor, that smoothness everyone talks about.
so i told myself, if iโm doing this, iโm doing it properly. brand new. i overthink a lot, so peace of mind matters to me.
i called a school friend who sells phones. told him clearly i wanted a brand new iphone 15 pro.
foolish me, i didnโt even know there was technically no brand new 15 pro like that anymore, that apple do not produce them again.
next day, i got one. over a million naira plus which was not supposed to be. i was happy. felt like i did things right in my mind.
so when i got back home, i unboxed it and turned it on. bloody hell it was a lla converted that was well packaged to look like a new one
now lla isnโt bad. but from 14 pro upward, u.s models are esim only. no physical sim tray. this one had been converted.
weeks later, battery health dropped from 100 to 80. in weeks. i later found out it had a boosted battery. then touch issues started. other random faults too
also some LLA converted have no issues too but the resell value is very low af compared to others , swapping and other things too if you want to swap ofc ,if you dont want to , no worries
and the painful part of it all was before buying, i was paranoid.
i asked questions. a friend of mine and I even spoke on the phone about my concerns, and jsyk i can't buy from online vendors, i have trust issues the size of an apple.
yet i still made the mistake.
fast forward to this year.
i wanted a 16 pro max. but i didnโt want history repeating itself. iโve seen people buy brand new phones that still had changed parts, very crazy.
thatโs when i discovered how complicated iphone market is in this part.
-brand new non-active.
-brand new active.
-uk used.
-us used.
-lla.
-non-lla.
-locked.
-unlocked.
it can actually make you run mad, so this time, i went for a brand new non-active 17 pro silver colour around the beginning of this month tho
i wanted a clean history and one that could last me for years with a peace of mind, and in the process, i realised something.
in this region, buying iphones is almost a skill. if youโre ignorant, you will be exploited. unless you have a truly trusted vendor. ( for those obsessed it with ofc )
sometimes itโs honestly safer to buy from abroad if you can handle the logistics.
i donโt usually share things like this here. but iโm putting it out there so someone else doesnโt repeat my mistake.
