@AirwingMarine Nikita says a lot of shit. Just like any figure tied to a company where independent verification is not possible. Any adult with a functioning brain understands this. Additionally I notice you have no response to how Marathon can follow the same path. Cool.

A game build entirely around the PvP loop can't just be made PvE... You have to fundamentally change every aspect of the game. That's wasted resources by the dev team that is already under a huge amount of pressure. If people don't want a PvP experience, go play one of the plethora of other games that aren't PvP. If you give players an easier path of progression they will almost always choose that. If you can't task in PvP, get better or try harder.
nathINSANE@nathINSANE

Add a PvE mode with a limited loot pool to Marathon, as a way for players to complete contracts without PvP threats would increase retention and player count. Keep all the good loot locked in the current modes this allows new players to level up "safely" and get comfortable.

There is no data on how the Tarkov community is broken into only speculation. The PvP in tarkov is just as much the center of the game as looting. It goes hand in hand otherwise it a "looter shooter" not and "extraction shooter". These 2 genre's are defined for reason. They added PvE because of PvP behavior to combat ratting and cheating and try to open to game to slightly more casual players. It was not designed for this initially and attempting to word smith some bullshit it is, is dissentious. Marathon is starting out exactly like Tarkov did with PvP. Marathon can also can be made with a PvE mode. Nothing prevents this from happening just as Tarkov managed it. Believing otherwise is foolish as we already have a working example.

I should probably stop wasting my time with you, but I'm going to try one more time. And I don't need to google anything about Tarkov. I've been covering it extensively for over 6 years now. Now, stop and think about more than just labels or titles for a second. I'm not saying Tarkov wasn't a game with PvP. I'm saying PvP is not the center of the game. Tarkovs complex game loop is centered around progression and looting. PvP is A PART of the core game loop, but it's not the center of it. This is why they were able to create a PvE mode by adding some AI and calling them PMCs. Marathon's game loop is built around the PvP. The game is an arcade PvP shooter that they use extraction elements to build up and enrich. You can't just add AI runners and call it a PvE game... And they can't turn off PvP and let players run around and not hurt each other because of how the game loop is structured. It would fundamentally require a change in how looting works, key'd rooms, as well as the AI itself. It is similar to trying to make APEX legends or WARZONE a PvE game.

Talking about the access media shilling this game since access is part of their business model. Shot gunning paid sponsors to streamers including offers to revdesu who's been vocally negative about the game on youtube. The entire strategy of filtering reviews on steam by using a 95% likeness preview 3 days before launch to filter anyone that would have made a purchase to be eligible for a fair review. This is just a few examples of manufacturing hype.

@DarkIxion @FacesOutOfCTX I love how profound you believe it is to talk about skins and editions and not bother to consider they dropped serious money to market this to the point of epic astroturfing to claw back the absolute mess this game started out as and it's still struggling.

Because copies sold as a blanket statement is assuming that every person who has bought the game has bought the standard edition, which is wrong, if the supposed “1.2 Million” spent $40 on the standard game or $60 on the deluxe edition, that’s a huge difference, that’s also not factoring in the merch that is always sold out and the skins that people buy (I’ve bought multiple)

I don’t think so. I don’t think Marathon cost that much to make considering Destiny 2 and Marathon both run on the Tiger engine, you also have to consider the people who bought the deluxe edition (me) and also buy skins (me, multiple times) the numbers aren’t entirely accurate Also, I don’t think Sony would of bought Bungie just so they could revive their original IP which new gen haven’t even heard of, and the people who did play the original, the vast majority of them are too old for a hardcore extraction shooter I personally think Destiny 3 has been in development for some time. I mean think about it, Destiny 1 lasted 3 years, Destiny 2 is in its 9th year now, I’m almost certain that within those 9 years, Destiny 3 has been talked about or is in early stages of development. It’s their most lucrative franchise, and I think Sony would expect them to make it. I could be way off the mark, I aren’t an industry expert, but I believe the people working at Sony and Bungie are and I think they know better to bank the success of their company on something very niche that may or may not appeal to their existing player base outside of trials and comp players

Marathon is inspired by Tarkov. I can tell by looking at the problematic inventory and how they attempted to simplify it. Accept managed to do overflow inventory worse then Tarkov and Arc. Also really nobody plays extraction shooters for their story just like Apex players don't play for the story. The graphics in Marathon fall short of Arc even after the beta. The textures are still flat from the original Beta and lack any definition. Check out the rain effect on the windows in Marathon. It still at its core has graphical fidelity of the fortnight style it started with in Beta. Nobody makes a PBR AAA game says hey lets have 2D white rain streaks in the mid 2020's. They changed some lighting, lut values, some PBR shader properties and added your typical AAA sun shafts. The gun play in Marathon is basically Apex. Tarkov is slower and weighty. Guns actually have sway and weight. Marathon characters move, jump and run like weightless fortnight characters. They even run with their knees out like goofy cartoon characters and make actual plopping noises when jumping. Almost all the guns sound like E-weapons in Cyberpunk. They lack the audible punch found in Arc or Tarkov making them far from satisfying. The reason extraction shooters don't end up with movement bro levels of gun play is the fact the stakes are higher then any arena/crucible/battle-royal game. Fundamentally they tried to mix these genres in the dumbest ways possible without understanding why they work the way they do. Topping it off with all the other weird things they decided to do like buildings with zero loot I can tell from a experienced extraction player they didn't know what they were doing. Out of all this I can see why this game, despite the synthetic manufactured ratings and positivity the games actual popularity isn't doing well. Because people like my self see what is there and are like sorry but there are better things to be playing right now.

Tarkov and arc aren’t marathon and I can’t comment on tarkov i have see that marathon has been placed somewhere between tarkov and arc raiders. I got 500 hours in arc raiders but that game is massively boring after two expeditions and nothing new to offer. No in depth story or factions to quest for. Also I like FPS over TPS and it has. A lot more to offer. Graphics are better than arc. I’m fine with both being good but marathon has a hold on me and I had similar taste with the bungie feel up to halo 3 until 343 got their hands on it. They did well with Destiny and kept that halo 1-3 feel. The art is debatable because that’s a personal thing. The graphics are good enough. The gunplay vastly superior to arc but I got nothing to say for tarkov I just hear it’s even more unforgiving than any other extraction out there is like to try it to see.

The TTK was a problem with higher shields. It's not like we didn't try them. I don't find marathon much deeper then other games and co streaming with a friend I've played many. I never had gear fear in Marathon. It's childs play to Tarkov anyways. Gun play in Marathon is floaty and lacks innertia and no I'm not a Bungie fan past halo 3. I don't find the graphics any better then EU5 games. I find the art style getting in the way of the HUD in game leading to loosing team mates. I had 30 hours in Marathon in the server slam and yes my Tarkov hours are reliant as well as my 400 Arc hours are because everyone on this platform likes to act pass judgment on people.

The TTK is not at all problematic once you get higher shields. I haven’t heard that as a problem after the first week when we all had white and green shields still. Idk how it’s boring when it’s one of the most in depth games out there. Have you at all interacted with the priority quest with the factions and got them above level 20? You start to see ways to get your stuff back and into matches and gear fear becomes nonexistent. Gunplay feels smooth if you are a fan of halo or destiny. Art I don’t care for but easily don’t pay attention when I’m In a firefight what the gun looks like. As far as graphics I think they are really s tier along with the audio. How many hours do you have in marathon? Your hours in tarkov aren’t relevant here.

Tried server slam after the bad beta and the art theft scandal. So I gave it a shot. I've got over 1k hours in tarkov so you can't tell me I'm some 'casual'. I found Marathon boreing. The TTK problematic. Lack of duo's something it needed day 1. Art style far too childish and over simplified for the sweaty player it demands. I would have never made this game.

Incorrect, it is good and the reason it hasn’t gotten more people on it is the art bullshit scandal last year and the early alpha and betas. I played those and didn’t enjoy it but full game release has been great. If you like PvP, halo and or destiny gunplay and feel then you’ll love marathon. The people against the game are retarded and just copy pasting and not using their own brains.

The car comparison doesn’t really apply—this is a starter package, not a physical product. It’s your interface with the game. The Mk1 was built before many current systems existed, so it doesn’t support them well. The Mk2 effectively replaces it at the same price, but without a 1:1 upgrade path, early backers have to spend more just to reach the same starting point as new players. That’s why people are upset.

If you're surprised Marathon turned out this well, I'm with ya. This time last year, I had all but written it off after trying that dreadful alpha with the cartoony art, no solo mode, and no prox chat.
