Sperm itself does NOT carry HIV.
HIV lives in certain body fluids, mainly blood, semen fluid, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids, and breast milk.
Inside semen, HIV is found in the seminal fluid, not inside the sperm cell. That’s why we say sperm does not have HIV ,the virus is in the fluid around it, not in the sperm head.
How HIV is transmitted through sex
During unprotected sex, HIV can enter the body through,
Small cuts or tears in the vagina, anus, or penis
Direct contact with infected semen fluid or vaginal fluids
This is why condoms, PrEP, and ARVs are important, they block or suppress the virus before it enters the bloodstream.
How a negative person can have a negative child with a positive partner
When a person living with HIV:
Takes ARVs correctly
Achieves undetectable viral load
👉 The virus becomes untransmittable (U=U).
This means:
A negative partner can remain negative
A baby can be born HIV-negative
The positive partner will never transmit HIV through sex
Modern treatment has made this possible and safe.
