I’ve really only understood it as Tocchet has his defenseman with a prior history that he’ll rely on, like a comfort thing.

The only time Juulsen should be in the lineup is if the #Flyers have an injured defenseman.
It hasn’t made sense as to why Andrae hasn’t been the standard over Juulsen all season.

If it were my call, Andrae would be back in the lineup tomorrow for Juulsen. Vladar in goal. No changes up front. Hopefully Zegras is OK. Returned to the game after the big Pelech hit but used sparingly.

That’s the actual thing about this.
A single blow out loss from a team that wasn’t in the playoff hunt at the time had his feathers ruffled.

Teams have an analytics department, and even then, the eye test leads the way.

xGF is one of the most misused, misunderstood metrics used in hockey in discussing offense.
It’s like pointing to +/- alone to refer to great defense.
The eye test will always determine more than what the paper or spreadsheet says.

There is a system Michkov has to adjust to. Tortorella allowed much more of a leash than Tocchet, which let him play his game to his strength. That much is fair.

In this instance, calling Cates garbage isn’t accurate either. I would absolutely say that he’s been a standout this season, and no one is talking about it.
Is that a hot take? Maybe.
The upcoming offseason will determine a lot about Michkov.

@EricReeseFN Talented players have should play with talented players. We saw it with Coots. Putting talented guys w/garbage just to “learn a system” that’s failed for years, it’s an injustice & the reason the flyers always stink.
