when clark went into the backrooms for the first time in the movie i was half expecting him to pull a justin long in barbarian and start measuring the place for square footage
If thereโs one thing I hope Kane Parsons improves upon in his career as a filmmaker, it would be to avoid making it obvious as to which characters among his cast will end up being typical horror fodder. Perhaps minor characters can be fleshed out to make you care a little too.
My main complaint about Backrooms is that the movie explains itself a little too much. They give an explanation for how the place works and how the creatures in it function, it leaves little room for ambiguity or mystery. So when I see people call it confusing Iโm like, โโฆhow?โ
The blockbuster summer movie as we know it is dead. RIP IP. The most talked about movies of the summer are two low budget indie filmsโOBSESSION and BACKROOMS. Not sequels. Not spinoffs. Not reboots. OGs. Movies are back, baby. This is the way.
something i've noticed about THE DRAMA, OBSESSION, BLUE FILM, EXIT 8, HOKUM, ERUPCJA, & UNDERTONE is a relative incuriosity about characters' lives beyond exposition. very hermetic, these people don't seem to exist outside of the immediate circumstances of the movie they're in.
