@eurogamer I like KCD2, but I sure hope the combat and controls are more action-rpg like. Either way, it's LOTR, so anything is very welcome from my side <3

I've seen a lot of negativity around Crimson Desert, but I genuinely think it's a great title. I got myself dozens of hours in and still kicking. Hundreds of hours in BG3. I think the "old kid" around the block should not bully the newcomer with such feeble arguments.

@Ashkiiaxix @Kotaku it's not just the game devs lol. This is what gets in your feed based on your algorithm and what's trending. It's also because people have louder voices here, and gamers are NOT as ignorant as any other media/product consumer.

@Kotaku why do game developers deserver special tears. People are sick and are in bad economic situations in other industries, but it's always the gamers and the hanger-on industries that play this violin.

@DiscussingFilm I like him, but I feel like he's a "pick me" person at this point, trying to get himself in any geeky/videogame adaptation. He probably played like 3 hours of first yakuza, now suddenly he wants in. There's plenty of talent out there. It's just like seeing Tom Holand everywhere.

@GamesRadar Expedition 33 didn't get lucky. The founder had mommy's and daddy's money for a couple millions euros in funding, along with ~400 contractors (check the credits). That's literally AAA material, hence the quality. It's a good game, although not for me.

As #Fortnite's players, creators, and developers are looking for accountability, we've found that almost none of Epic Games' executives have publicly commented or apologized for yesterday's layoffs 🚫 - Tim Sweeney, Epic's chief and CEO, issued an apology to employees and made a post stating that "anyone [from Epic] is in the top few percent of their discipline," which has since drawn heavy criticism from angry players, influencers, and industry members and journalists - Adam Sussman, Epic's president, has not issued a public statement - Mark Rein, Epic's VP and co-founder, has not issued a public statement - Daniel Vogel, Epic's Chief Operating Officer, has not issued a public statement. Vogel drew criticism in 2021 after he ended Epic's policy of granting every other Friday off to their employees - Kim Libreri, Epic's Chief Technology Officer, has not issued a public statement - Randy Gelber, Epic's Chief Financial Officer, has not issued a public statement - Monika Fahlbusch, who joined Epic as their Chief People Officer leading their HR team after a tenure at the vaping company JUUL, has not issued a public statement - Charlie Wen, Epic's Chief Creative Officer, has not issued a public statement, amod speculation he silently left the company last year - Tera Randall, Epic's executive VP of Global Affairs, has not issued a public statement - Steve Allison, the VP and GM of the Epic Games Store, has not issued a public statement - Nate Nanzer, the senior VP of Commerce & Partnerships, has not issued a public statement. Nanzer joined Epic in 2019 after a tenure heading the now-defunct Overwatch League. Jeff Kaplan, the former game director of Overwatch, said in an interview that the league was wildly oversold to investors - Saxs Persson, the executive VP behind UEFN, left the company late last year As many of Epic's most dedicated employees - both current and now former - struggle to pick up the pieces, the silence from their executive leadership is deafening.

@Kotaku I like how AI-slop gooners are defending this bs so hard. Bro, just go watch porn, developers don't want any of that. Executives/managers encouraging this are just job hoppers that follow trends and don't actually give a crap about video games as an art.

@kiwitalkz Yeah don't let them know about the executive likes of Bobby Kotick. The budgets are insane, but someone's gotta get those annual bonuses. I know game directors who get annual bonuses and/or raises while the rest of the people that actually do the development get scrap or nothing

Yip, Jason is bang on and I have been saying this for a while, that budgets for AAA games are insane now in the U.S. This is why Rockstar has 1600 devs alone in India doing QA and art on GTA 6, its way cheaper. Why pay an american dev $140K a year when that can pay for 4 or 5 indian devs. It's not difficult to work out the rough average of development costs for a game, take the average salary multiply it by the amount of devs at that studio and then by the amount of years the game was in development, add in a 75% cost for marketing costs and 10% cost for other costs such as commercial leases and other bills (e.g water, power etc.) and that will give you a rough idea of how much a game costs to make.

@Pirat_Nation Heard the same garbage tweet from @GamesRadar . "Steam expert" I, too, am a steam expert. I've been using their platform for 2 decades. I'm also a video games connoisseur because I own over 1000 games on steam. So, literally a nobody said that, and everyone spreads the same bs.

Steam experts say that indie games reaching about $150,000 in sales and 500 reviews in the first six months become special "golden geese" that catch Gabe Newell's attention. Developers act like clever goblins who turn player wishlists into real money by making updates and doing good marketing.
