@richard_effendi That’s a great analysis!!!
The fan TL of Sans always had a speaking style that never felt lame, and I got the impression that when the official TL was released and the speaking style was adjusted to align more closely with the canon interpretation, some people couldn’t accept it.
English

This has been very fascinating indeed. Probably the most interesting thing I've learned is how the official JP translation comes off as softer compared to the EN script, even though the EN script of Undertale is quite far from being edgy. (1/?).

All the post this person has been making has been quite interesting. My biggest takeaway from his comments is that while Undertale in English is evocative of Earthbound, Undertale's Japanese translation is evocative of MOTHER 2.

@413x1nkp @richard_effendi Also, if there are grammatical errors in the original text, they’re converted into typo “手ミー”
English

@413x1nkp @richard_effendi Oh! While this writing style isn’t quite as extreme as Spamton, it’s still pretty quirky. It uses small kana letters and half-width characters in ways that aren’t typical, making it look like the kind of internet slang you’d find on women’s message boards from decades years ago.
English

@richard_effendi In the chara's dialogue, kanji are used consistently, which makes it feel like the tone has shifted completely.
Kanji are also used in the dark world of Deltarune, and—again, this is just my opinion—it gives me the same sense of a shift in tone that I get from later SF games.

English

@richard_effendi I believe that for words where mispronunciation or misreading could easily occur—even when written in hiragana or katakana—kanji is used to the extent that it doesn’t disrupt the game’s canon lore (at least that’s my take on it).
English

@richard_effendi Hmm
I think opinions will vary on this, especially among those who are used to unofficial translations, and I haven’t fully grasped the tone of the EN version of UT myself. But if people overseas feel that UT has a similar tone to Earthbound, then I think this choice is spot-on.

「公式翻訳が欲しい」って声を上げることは大事だと思うけど、それで日本語訳を叩いたり、粗探しするのは論外でしょ
その粗探しも、非ネイティブの人が的外れな事を言ってるのがほとんどだし

lo mas gracioso de todo esto es que, por toda la polémica, la comunidad se puso a revisar la traducción oficial al japones de undertale y descubrieron que esta hecha con las patas
