On our last day in Reykjavik we visited an imposing church designed to resemble basalt lava pillars, spent time in the tourist shops and visited the Sky Lagoon geothermal waters and spa to relax before our flight home. An amazing trip from start to finish!

Yesterday we visited a stunning volcanic crater, Hveradalir, a geothermal area, a lava tunnel with spectacular icicles and saw recent lava with fascinating rippled formations from eruptions in 2021 in the Nattagi valley. Reykjavik our location tomorrow!

Today we awoke to a dusting of snow which made a tectonic rift in Thingvellir National Park even more stunning in the sunshine! Gullfoss waterfall was equally as amazing, followed by a geothermal geyser, feeding Icelandic horses and an ice cream factory!

Travel to Iceland went very smoothly! We have visited the ‘Bridge between continents’ where the North American & Eurasian plates are moving apart. The landscapes are unearthly lava fields. We also visited the Gunnuhver Hot Springs & collected lava samples from a recent eruption!
