While the boycott is over, let’s use this opportunity to actually enjoy and promote comic books that are mainly about black characters and support the black creatives. It still hasn’t change that there isn’t a mainline black book and we should promote to ask more of it

@darkdefective You mistake the instrument of the arg (US racial discourse) for the prob being addressed (colorism which predates + operates independently of race theory). And u frame the "ambiguous" default as neutral when it functionally advantages lighter-skinned readings of the character

I will say that this denotes a very American view of race. Making her complexion browner is a shorthand for making her more “ethnic” and highlighting her heritage but with none of the legwork, I don’t really see how it’s much different from your bog standard orientalism.

@GothAlGhul Talia herself shouldn’t be drawn lighter than she is, but the discourse about Damian ONLY looking Arab if he’s dark skinned is the problem. they’ll go as far as to draw him darker than she is to prove their point. Arabs come in all shades and we wish people could understand that.

@batconnoisseur7 Cuz he represents the Arabs who look like him. The good thing about representing an ethnic group is how u can project into them how we look wether we are light, tanned or dark Right now the industry suffers of choosing light skinned over dark skinned on purpose
