@rcobooth @SpanbergerForVA They’re not moving forward in VA though are they? It’s got a democratic legislative majority and I doubt they’ll be bringing a bill forward?

So let's start with an essential part of American culture - music. Pop and rock - born in America and beloved around the world. Grown out of blues, jazz, soul, R&B, gospel, folk, country, Latin, Western swing, bluegrass, etc. Created because of the interface of people with descendants from the continents of Europe, Africa and Central and South America. Maybe Mr Musk doesn't like music.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

For a country to survive, there has to be a common culture. Nobody dies to defend a “multicultural economic zone”! American culture, with its English-Scotts-Irish origin, is great and worth fighting for. Some may not realize it, but that’s why people come here. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@armfornow @paschutz Sounds like the best part of American culture is the incorporation and mixing with other cultures. What a dynamic and beautiful thing.

Very true, except you're missing an important element. American culture becomes American culture (rather than something else), in part, by incorporating ideas, music, foods, faith traditions, etc., from elsewhere. That does not diminish Musk's point in the least. America has distinct culture; it's not an open dumpster.

@John32jr @paschutz I hesitate to argue with someone so obviously dumb as bricks but African cultures (it’s a big continent it’s not homogenous) have adopted American musical traditions (Afropop), film culture (Nollywood), and food (many American chains) to various degrees.

@paschutz Do you ever apply this thinking in reverse? Does Africa need more white culture from the US?

@EricMGarcia You are anti-civil rights. Your little fuss over a word is very telling. A word we all use bothers you, but stripping Americans of civil rights doesn't? 🤣 Keep walking pendejo

@ZacharyKramer @EricMGarcia My guess is any parent who encourages their kid not to call someone they don’t like “retard” because mental retardation is an intellectual disability?

@williamjordann I don’t get the significance. Nobody reads the platforms. I doubt even candidates could name half the things in them.

"twice the mentions of 'climate' and half the mentions of 'clean energy'" is an especially interesting one to consider

“The report’s study of national Democratic Party platforms from 2012 to 2024 found a surge in language about specific racial groups (up 828%), …, and about LGBTQ rights (up 1044%). Mentions of “men” fell by 63%, of “fathers” by 100%, and “responsibility” by 83%.” “In 2020 and 2024, the party platform began with land acknowledgments for the Native American tribes that had previously inhabited their convention sites.”
David Weigel@daveweigel

First in @semafor: A new study of Democrats' rotten brand, endorsed by Biden's former CM and a former DCCC chair, blames not "the groups" but whole party for embracing identity politics and left-wing ideas. The way out: Return to Obama 2012/Bernie 2016. semafor.com/article/10/27/…

The whole point of Deciding to Win is that when you really approach the data rigorously, it just ends up supporting common sense intuitions. The problem is that progressives have been misleading Democrats about the true state of public opinion.
shoe@shoe0nhead

@simon_bazelon @laurenhpope @liamkerr so it took you guys 10 years, millions of dollars and dozens of microsoft teams meetings to come to the conclusion everyone has been saying forever

@HelpWithFacts @TheWelcomeTeam Ok. Carville ran a winning campaign against an incumbent seen as unbeatable a year out. And seems like if Republicans think it would hurt them if we did this, it would be a good idea!

@milansingh03 Hey that’s cool. Gay marriage has 41% support among Republicans. Democrats should run on repealing it right?
