#OTD 141 years ago, Ida C. Ward (1880-1949) was born 🥳 She was an expert on (the phonetics of) a number of African languages, among others on Efik, Igbo, Mende, Twi, & Yoruba. However, she also published on English phonetics. #LinguisticBirthdays #WomenInLinguistics

Hey psychology journals: is it really so hard to insist on using IPA symbols in your language papers? I'm reading a paper that talks about a distinction between "[a] and [open o]" and between "[E] and [I]". This is...kinda unnecessarily sloppy, isn't it?
