Indonesia demands that Israel immediately and permanently cease all hostilities and aggression in Lebanon. Indonesia also underscores the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, in accordance with international law. Indonesia calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, take step towards de-escalation, prioritize dialogue, and avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia expresses grave concern over the explosion on 3 April 2026 in El Addaiseh, southern Lebanon, which injured three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL. This marks the third serious incident involving Indonesian peacekeepers in less than a week. Repeated attacks or incidents of this nature are utterly unacceptable. Regardless of their immediate cause, they underscore the urgent need to strengthen the protection of UN peacekeepers in an increasingly dangerous environment. Indonesia calls on the United Nations Security Council to address this matter urgently, and on UNIFIL troop- and police-contributing countries to convene a meeting immediately to review and strengthen force protection measures. Indonesia further calls for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including the circumstances and those responsible, and stresses that full accountability must follow. This incident occurred amid Israel’s ongoing incursion into Lebanon. Israel’s continuing military operations in southern Lebanon, including stated intentions to maintain a presence, risk further destabilizing the situation and placing United Nations peacekeepers in sustained danger. Indonesia reiterates that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable. Any harm to peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unanswered. Indonesia wishes the injured personnel a full and swift recovery and stands in solidarity with them and their families.

The Foreign Ministers of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the Israeli occupying power’s enactment of a law in its Parliament (Knesset), that allows the imposition of the death penalty in the occupied West Bank and its de facto application against Palestinians. The Ministers warned against the increasingly discriminatory, escalating Israeli practices that entrench a system of apartheid and a rejectionist discourse that denies the inalienable rights and the very existence of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). The Ministers underscored that this legislation constitutes a dangerous escalation, particularly given its discriminatory application against Palestinian prisoners, and stressed that such measures risk further exacerbating tensions and undermining regional stability. The Ministers also expressed deep concern over the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, warning of mounting risks amid credible reports of ongoing abuses, including torture, inhumane and degrading treatment, starvation, and the denial of basic rights. They emphasized that these practices reflect a broader pattern of violations against the Palestinian people. The Ministers reaffirmed their opposition to Israel’s racially discriminatory, oppressive, and aggressive policies targeting Palestinians. The Ministers further emphasized the urgent need to refrain from measures imposed by the occupying power that risk further inflaming tensions on the ground. They stressed the importance of ensuring accountability and called for strengthened international efforts to uphold stability and prevent further deterioration.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli Knesset's approval of legislation imposing the death penalty on Palestinian detainees. Such a policy is unacceptable and undermines the sense of justice as well as universal humanitarian values. The law is a grave violation of international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which guarantees the right to life and the right to a fair trial. The Government of Indonesia calls on Israel to immediately revoke the legislation and cease all actions that contravene international law, and to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, including detainees. Indonesia also calls on the international community, in particular the United Nations, to take firm measures to ensure accountability and protection for the Palestinian people. Indonesia reaffirms its full support for the struggle of the Palestinian people to achieve independence, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia condemns in the strongest terms the second consecutive incident near Bani Haiyyan, southern Lebanon, on 30 March 2026 affecting Indonesian peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL, resulting in the loss of two more lives and injuries to two others. The recurrence of such heinous attacks against Indonesian peacekeepers within a short span of time is utterly unacceptable. This cannot be treated as an isolated occurrence, but reflects a rapidly deteriorating security environment in southern Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli military operations have placed United Nations peacekeepers at grave risk. Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeepers and undermined the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006). Indonesia mourns the loss of its fallen peacekeepers and stands in solidarity with their families, while wishing a swift recovery to those injured. The safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable. Any harm against them constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unanswered. Indonesia calls for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including the circumstances and those responsible, and stresses that full accountability must follow.

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Qatar condemned, in the strongest terms, and reject the continued restrictions imposed by Israel on the freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem, including the prevention of Muslim worshippers from accessing Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and the prevention of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Custos of the Holy Land from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass. They renewed their condemnation and rejection of any Israeli attempts to alter the legal and historical status quo at Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. These continued Israeli measures constitute a flagrant violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, as well as of the legal and historical status quo, and represent an infringement on the unrestricted right of access to places of worship. The Ministers affirmed their absolute rejection of the illegal and restrictive Israeli measures against Muslims and Christians in Jerusalem, including preventing Christians from freely accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to perform their religious rites. They stressed the necessity of respecting the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and its Muslim and Christian holy sites, reiterating that Israel, as the occupying Power, holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem, and underscoring the need to halt all measures that impede worshippers’ access to their places of worship in Jerusalem. The Ministers renewed their condemnation of Israel’s continued closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif to worshippers for 30 consecutive days including during the holy month of Ramadan, and the restriction of freedom of worship, which constitutes a serious violation of international law, the existing legal and historical status quo, and Israel’s obligations as the occupying Power. They warned of the dangers of these escalatory measures to regional and international peace and security. The Ministers reiterated that the entire area of Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif, amounting to 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the legal entity with exclusive jurisdiction to administer the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulate entry thereto. The Ministers called on Israel, as the occupying Power, to immediately cease the closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif, remove access restrictions in the Old City of Jerusalem, and refrain from obstructing Muslim worshippers’ access to the mosque. They also called on the international community to adopt a firm position that compels Israel to halt its ongoing violations and illegal practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as its violations of the sanctity of these holy places.
