Ying Chanita: The Graduate Who Knelt for Her Brother At her graduation ceremony in Thailand, 27-year-old Ying Chanita did something that moved millions around the world. She placed her graduation robe on her older brother's shoulders. Then she knelt at his feet and bowed deeply—a traditional Thai gesture of profound respect and gratitude. Ten years earlier, their family faced an impossible choice. Their mother worked as a rubber tapper in Surat Thani province, earning barely enough to survive. She couldn't afford to send both children to school. Ying's older brother, Nattapong Chanapol, was 20 years old and in his second year of vocational school. He made a decision that would change both their lives: he dropped out to work and support the family so his little sister could continue her education. For ten years, Nattapong worked alongside their mother tapping rubber trees while Ying pursued her degree at Suratthani Rajabhat University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Ying admitted she didn't fully understand what her brother had sacrificed until her final years at university. But when she finally graduated in 2022 (delayed from 2018 due to COVID-19), she knew exactly how to honor him. The video of her kneeling before her brother went viral, receiving over 10 million views on TikTok. People around the world praised Nattapong's selfless sacrifice and Ying's beautiful gesture of gratitude. Today, Ying works at a private company, helping to support her family just as her brother once did for her. This is a story about sibling love, sacrifice, and never forgetting where you came from.
