@erat_perfect @BrentEff @ryangrim @short_straw It's better they never start doing activities like this. A consumer focused agency discouraged them. Lawsuits aren't necessarily great deterrence because they don't always succeed, and settlements don't usually overshadow the money made.

Yes, this is a point I've been making and the overdraft thing is a perfect example. If you had $12 in your account and you bought a $5 coffee and then put $20 of gas in your car, what banks would do is flip the transactions and debit the $20 first, then hit the $5 coffee, and boom, you get 2 overdraft fees instead of just one. They would stretch that out over days!
Get rid of the CFPB and that stuff will come right back.

@ryangrim Before the CFPB the bank i worked for wad LITERALLY structuring debits from accounts to maximize overdraft fees. The CFPB took no action against the institution. But the mere presence of them caused changes on top of changes.

@BrentEff @erat_perfect @ryangrim @short_straw Brent hits the nail on the head here. Plaintiffs attorneys get most of the money. Also, I don't think you'd ever get a court to call it fraud. It's just shitty activity.
