In @CityJournal, I profile three Democratic-led cities (San Francisco, San Jose, and Philadelphia) which are doing sensible things about crime and drugs and finding that voters appreciate it (even if activists don't). city-journal.org/article/democr…

AUSTIN MAN stabs two strangers on a CapMetro bus just a year after being sentenced for beating a security guard over the head with her own flashlight. The suspect, Rogerio Martinez Jr., 54, has not been identified yet publicly, though strong circumstantial evidence points to him being the suspect. His record is one of repeated violence followed by lax prosecution. In Montgomery County TX, Martinez was charged four times with aggravated robbery and once for strangling a family member. All cases were dismissed or pled down. Martinez at some point moved to Austin and began assaulting people here. 2019, Travis County: Arrested for assaulting a public servant - a felony. Prosecutors knocked it down to a misdemeanor. He got 30 days. 2024, Travis County: Attacked an HEB security guard -- grabbed her wrist, then bashed her in the forehead with a flashlight hard enough to leave a golf ball-sized welt. She drew her gun before he stopped. Sentenced to 2 years in state prison. With roughly 12 months of pre-trial jail credit already accrued, he likely had little time left to serve by the time he reached TDCJ. 2026: Two people stabbed on a city bus. One in critical condition. His record across multiple counties: • 4 aggravated robbery charges: 3 dismissed, 1 plea • Family strangulation: 3y TDCJ • Assault on public servant: felony reduced to misdemeanor, 30d jail • Assault on security officer: 2y county jail • Now: 2 counts aggravated assault with deadly weapon, pending A man with this record was back on the street. On Friday, two people paid for it by getting stabbed on the bus.
