BREAKING: Israel agrees to talks with Lebanon

🧵 Thread: India’s nuclear growth and global security concerns India’s Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at #Kalpakkam has reached criticality. Fast breeder reactors produce plutonium‑type fissile material as part of their operation. Plutonium and enriched uranium are materials that can be used in nuclear weapons or potentially misused if not securely controlled. India is not a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). NSG membership affects the scope of international monitoring and material transfer restrictions and may limit external safeguards. Documented reports: India has experienced multiple incidents of nuclear material theft, smuggling, and loss over the past decades. Claims include 25+ cases totaling 200 kg+ of uranium and other fissile elements from 1994 to 2025. Reports also indicate seizures of highly radioactive elements such as californium and concerns expressed by neighbouring state statements about recurring thefts and illicit sale of nuclear materials. Anadolu Agency Between 1995–1998 alone, 147 mishaps and security‑related concerns were reported in Indian nuclear facilities, including serious cases. India’s nuclear programme has also faced cybersecurity breaches, such as confirmed malware in the admin network of the Kudankulam nuclear plant, raising questions about information security around critical infrastructure. For the international community, any expanding stockpile of plutonium and uranium especially without full oversight mechanisms represents a potential non‑proliferation and security challenge. India’s nuclear expansion including fast breeder reactors that produce more fissile material occurs amid these documented security events, underscoring the need for robust global safeguards. As nuclear material volumes grow, so do concerns about possible theft, unauthorized access, and the potential for material to be diverted to unintended actors. #India #NuclearSecurity #FissileMaterial #GlobalSecurity #NonProliferation

(Reuters) - Pakistani authorities have locked down the capital Islamabad in anticipation of the war's first peace talks, cutting off all access to a 3-km (2-mile) zone around the five-star luxury Serena Hotel. Both the U.S. and Iranian delegations are expected to stay at the hotel, which told all guests to check out until Sunday as it had been "requisitioned" for "an important event".
