A man named Bassam Saeh conducted an in-depth study of the Qur’an and Hadith to determine whether Muhammad could have authored (or forged) the Qur’an himself. He analyzed the vocabulary, style, and linguistic richness of both the Qur’an and the authentic (Sahih) Hadith collections. His conclusion was that the Qur’an and the Hadith appear to come from two different authors. The Qur’an exhibits an extraordinarily high level of grammatical complexity, rhetorical beauty, and linguistic richness that is unique to it. In contrast, the Hadith while eloquent and profound, shows a noticeably lower level of grammatical and stylistic sophistication, also unique in its own way. He argued that it is implausible for an unlettered man (ummi, as described in Islamic tradition) to produce speech of such supreme literary excellence in the Qur’an, while simultaneously speaking in the more ordinary style found in the Hadith. This stark difference in linguistic quality, supports the view that the Qur’an is divine revelation rather than a human composition by the Prophet Muhammad.
