After 18 days of general strike the people of Ecuador have forced the government to lower gas prices, limit oil exploration and mining, and protect parks and water sources. The government now has 90 days to deliver on the other demands of Indigenous groups, or they strike again.

@JoeDelBosque @MotherJones California doesn't have any water. Other places can produce plenty of delicious food without wasting so much water. Different food at different times of the year? Sure, but depending on irrigation in CA isn't viable for much longer

@LRShap @MotherJones California has many climate advantages that make foods available for a bigger window. This means many fruits and vegetables are available from California months before and after other areas with colder climes.

California feeds us, but it's in severe drought again. Time for a new idea. bit.ly/3860T7b

@JoeDelBosque @MotherJones Sure, but there's a huge variety of produce that can be grown year round in other climates that aren't in the middle of a mega drought. California also has significant climate disadvantages, like not nearly enough water 🌊

@JoeDelBosque @MotherJones There are plenty of varieties that produce very well in diverse climates very different than California's climate. Many of California's crops evolved and grew for millenia in other parts of the world before being introduced to California

@MotherJones While it may sound like fruits and vegetables can be grown in other states (and some do) because they get plenty of rain, these crops do not thrive in wet weather. They like dry, warm weather, but need irrigation.
