Back in the early Instagram days, every IG infra engineers practically had to memorize @justinbieber 's user ID...because every time bieber posted, we’d run into hot key issues on CassandraDB and crashing Instagram. 🥵🥵 Multiple web servers would try to retrieve the same data from cache (e.g., number of likes), hit a cache miss, and all flood the database, triggering a classic thundering herd problem. The oncalls literally had a runbook: if an alert fired, check if it was bieber’s user ID, then run some killswitch operation... Serving hot data is hard, serving globally accessed resources like counters is hard. But infrastructure stacks like @Aptos are built to handle exactly this, with Aggregators and Block-STM solving core coordination problems natively. And with @shelbyserves optimizing data serving performance even further and enabling new data economy, I’m excited to see Shelby + Aptos take a major seat in disrupting the cloud business in the future. (P.S. A bunch of engineers who worked on scaling Instagram later joined a project called Libra/Diem, and eventually landed at @AptosLabs. One of them, @zekun000, is the Head of Blockchain at Aptos and is building Shelby protocol)

Glad to hop on a community call to share our August updates (it's a lot). To conclude, in the game of waiting, we want to do something to GIVE BACK to our community. So, an actual prize pool event is coming in mid-August for community players & Tarot holders. Other than this, we've got the biggest game update since January this year. New chapters, new hero pools, returning events, even an AI assistant in game to make life better... Finally CASTILE joining the AI race. The goal of August update is to giving every Castiler a good reason to come back and take a look. Play several games and have fun!

Tomorrow marks my official first year at @Castileofficial. How time flies - so much has happened and yet it still feels fresh. Every week there is something new in this line of business. Being only a small part of the ops team, it has been a fulfilling journey with so many learnings along the way. Please allow me to share of my personal learnings. Blockchain ecosystem sets the bottom line for a project. It is the infrastructure and primary source of organic users for a project. I strongly believe @Aptos has been a great (the best) ecosystem and we are lucky to build on it. - Games needs efficiency in every aspect and Aptos is the fastest & safest engine out there. Community is the backbone of our game. I am so proud and humble that many has joined the journey. I have been working so hard to champion the needs of our Castilers. Good things aside, we could have done a better job in serving our Castilers right. - The biggest lesson here is that we are not fast enough to meet everyone's expectation. Yet, expectation means everything. Token price (valuation) decides the upper limit of a project - almost all benefit from it. Yet, no web 3 game has completely figured it out. The irony is - we used to believe token utility is king for web 3 games. But it turns out that utility is just means to an end. Healthy revenue, believing community, and etc is the king. We are still on this journey to explore further. Exciting August to come.
