Modern slavery—human trafficking, forced labour, prostitution, and organ trafficking—is a crime “against humanity”. Each of us is a reflection of the image of God, and we cannot tolerate that the image of the living God is subjected to such abhorrent exploitation.

Earlier today, MPs voted in favour of the ‘End of Life Bill’ at it’s second reading. We pray that it will be rejected in the latter stages, and that more resources in palliative care are made available for those who suffer. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

Despite the uncertainty that is to come, @BishopSeitz reminds us that the Church will remain a steadfast lifeline to our vulnerable migrant brothers and sisters in need. We will continue to uphold the dignity of and protect the rights of migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees.

It is a grave sin to exploit the vulnerable, a grave sin that corrodes fraternity and devastates society. As disciples of Jesus, we desire to bring to the world the leaven of the Gospel. May we put God first, along with those whom He especially loves: the poor and the weak.

Amen.
