If anyone hasn’t bought Wain, by @smaychel, then I am shocked... It’s the most gorgeous book, written with heart, talent, and love. It should be mandatory. It would make the world a kinder place. See @TheEmmaPress to get a copy 🏳️‍🌈

It's almost a year since Wain, my book of LGBT+ poems for kids retelling folklore, illustrated by @HeleneBoppert, was published by @TheEmmaPress. We wanted to launch it at this time of year because February is LGBT History Month @LGBTHistoryScot. This year has changed my life.

Just imagine the future of live poetry if people weren’t put off by feeling they had to recite from memory. Amanda Gorman flung the door open today for so many in the poetry community who may have felt performance wasn’t for them.

I’d hazard a guess that the poets who go about saying it’s sacrilege for a poet to read off the page while performing are now busy drafting their tweets in praise of Amanda Gorman and her very excellent poem at #Inauguration Let’s hope she’s just ended that pathetic argument.

All promoters have to keep this in mind. It simply cannot be forgotten that the arts has underserved a huge community of people forever. The moves forward that have been made can’t be rolled back. Can’t spend 18 months saying don’t leave folk behind, then do it.
