Today, as we celebrated World Autism Awareness Day, I received Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke at Lagos House, Marina. Kanyeyachukwu, a young advocate, completed an endurance ride of 687 kilometres from Enugu to Lagos. His journey speaks to courage, resilience, and what is possible. He has shown that every child has real potential that deserves support and recognition. In honour of this, I pledged a total of N200 million to support autism-focused organisations under the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs and the Kanyeyachukwu Foundation. This is a step toward stronger advocacy and better support for caregivers and individuals on the autism spectrum.

Today at Lagos House, Marina, I shared the progress we have made through the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity programme, supported by partners like the World Bank, UNICEF and the Universal Basic Education Board. We designed HOPE to focus on what matters most to our people. Education, primary healthcare, and governance. I am encouraged by the results we are seeing across all three. In education, every pupil in the early years of public primary school now has access to literacy and numeracy textbooks. Over 12,000 teachers are also using our mentoring platform to improve how they teach. We have also introduced free learning materials and an e-learning platform for junior secondary school students to support their growth. In healthcare, we have strengthened primary care by upgrading facilities and deploying 3,600 health workers to underserved communities. Many of our primary healthcare centres are now more reliable and better equipped to serve families. On governance, we are improving transparency and accountability at the local government level through training and stronger systems that support better budgeting and service delivery. These results reflect careful planning and consistent work. More importantly, they show our commitment to improving everyday life for Lagosians. Behind every number is a real story, and our goal remains simple. To deliver the greatest good for the greatest number of people.

Today, I visited the newly constructed Tolu Schools Complex to assess progress ahead of its commissioning. This complex brings together 36 schools across primary, junior, and senior secondary levels, spread over 11.7 hectares. It is set to serve over 20,000 students and stands as the largest school community in Africa, with well-equipped classrooms, football fields, basketball courts and other modern facilities. Education remains central to our vision for Lagos and we will continue to ensure every child has access to a quality learning environment. I appreciate the warm reception from residents and the students I met. Your support encourages us to keep going and we remain committed to serving you.
