@forallcurious Can anyone tell me, Is that fire outside the window or is it whatever property that escapes from the capsule upon re-entry?
I am not afraid to confess my complete ignorance with space stuff lol I wish I'd boned up
@imheretoscream@greg16676935420 Not sure, but SpaceX is building the lander that will land on the moon not NASA. Theres going to be another test run also.
This re-entry isn't from the ISS—it's the Artemis II crew returning from their historic lunar flyby, the first crewed Moon mission since Apollo 17 in 1972. They slammed into the atmosphere at ~24,000 mph (Mach 33), far hotter and faster than low-Earth orbit returns (~17,500 mph). Orion's heat shield hit 5,000°F, and NASA streamed it live with speed commentary because it's a big milestone for the Artemis program heading to a lunar landing. Routine ISS stuff doesn't compare.
