who is barry? introducing "badly drawn barry", a badly drawn art collection, coming to @megaeth. barry represents the common folk. the small accounts. the ones trying to find their place in the world. there's a (long) story here, plus mint details and other info. ⤵️ tl;dr - open edition of a special edition barry on megaeth testnet on @rarible fun (very soon) - followed by testnet mint of a limited collection of 222 barries (few weeks) - curated wl (just ask for it), preference to small accounts - 222 barries then airdropped for free on megaeth maintnet - community of barries forms, supporting each other - live happily ever after longer version of the story next... how it started in 2021, i had the time of my life during nft summer. i was minting things every day. chasing down new projects. having heaps of fun. and i felt so inspired by what was going on around me that i wanted to create something myself. i just didn't know what. i thought long and hard, and came up with the idea of "badly drawn barry". i'm terrible at drawing and have no real tech/dev skills, but i thought i could at least tell a story and create a character that would become my persona. barry represented every failed trade, every missed opportunity, every round trip, every fuckup. he was me as a small account trying to fit in among people with much larger followings and much more talent and bigger networks. i spent weeks hand drawing barries and was only able to do 113 barries in total, but i was incredibly proud of them. then i launched the project and nobody cared. i gave a few barries to friends and sold 7 in total. the og collection lives on here: opensea.io/collection/bad… the dreams i had of creating an impactful moment were evidently rather unrealistic. who is barry? barry is based on my favourite tv character, named barry, from the british soap opera eastenders. i love barry. he's a great guy. a bit of a fool, but his heart's in the right place. fast forward to 2025 after nft summer, i dipped in and out of crypto, sometimes taking extended breaks. i got heavily involved with blast but then also burned myself out once more. being a small account, i always felt smol and insignificant. i wasn't good at spotting trends. i was a poor trader. bad networker. and i had no exceptional skills. but the most fun i have had in crypto has always been during times when i've been part of a community, although i never properly found one where i fit in. when megaeth came along, a community formed organically, and things were exciting again. there was a lot going on. cool apps (hello @Showdown_TCG, hello @noise_xyz). i started to engage with other people, mostly fellow small accounts, and it's been great. i also found myself sometimes being noticed and acknowledged by bigger accounts, and it was empowering. i still had this feeling that i wanted to create something and i kept coming back to barry. i made an off-the-cuff comment one day about the collection, and @y0_berry, @bhoughkneeni and @0xWildxX said, "why don't you launch it on megaeth?" i then got in touch with @rarible fun and @jonathancolon, and came up with a plan. so here we are. the collection we're starting with an open edition of a special edition megaeth barry, which i'll keep open for 7 days (the age of my son). i think it would be amazing to finally realise my dream of having so many people own a barry. but this is just the beginning. i'm going to flesh out the original collection, so there will be 222 barries in total that will launch as a full collection on megaeth testnet as a free mint. the mint will be in a few weeks, and it will be whitelist only. to get whitelist, you just have to ask me for it, and i will curate the list. preference will be given to small accounts, accounts in the megaeth community and friends. i'd love to connect on a more personal level with everyone for us all to continue to support and uplift each other (the megaeth way). the testnet collection will launch on @rarible fun and then once megaeth mainnet comes, everyone will be airdropped their unique barry for free. plus, i will then go to bat for all the barries, and i'll do everything i can to get wl spots and whatever perks in megaeth i can find for us all. maybe i'll even set up a twitter group chat for us. nothing too hectic. keeping things simple. collabs i'm open to doing a small number of collabs for wl with established megaeth projects like @badbunnz_ and @megalioeth and @meganacci etc. just reach out! who even am i?
