@dp_oneill Isn’t this just based on hospital self-report. internal policies for staffing ratios, and not accounting for temporary staff? Are there not reasons for hospitals NOT to report these data?

Also notable: Data on staffing shortages is…different from what you might infer from anecdotal media reports or lobbyist hand-wringing.
It is, though, what one might expect based solely on BLS data for actual hospital headcount (above pre-pandemic levels, despite ↘️ volume)

MedPAC pouring a bucket of cold data on hospitals’ financial doom-mongering.
Turns out:
- 2021 saw record-high operating margins
- Same number of hospitals opened as closed in 2021 & 2022
- So far, data suggests 2022 operating margins are positive and consistent w/ 2019

Hospitals all over the country are over capacity with wait times higher than they’ve ever been. Patients are suffering but it’s weird that you barely hear about this on the news
