45 years ago today the Fourth Doctor gave way to the Fifth. I read in the paper that morning that Tom Baker would simply vanish, which killed any excitement I had for a glimpse of the new guy. Imagine the sheer thrill of seeing Mr Davison’s face in the closing moments after all…

The concert ended with Moonage Daydream. Bowie broke out his old “Space Hopper” mime and Ziggy was resurrected in front of us. I remember him grinning as he did this; he was clearly having fun.

He walked on barefoot, in paint-spattered overalls, entirely nonchalant about his own legend.

30 years ago tonight, Bowie in Cardiff - the greatest gig of my life. Front row, pressed against the security barrier, close enough to see his mismatched eyes.

As a '70s kid The New Avengers was my gateway into the world of Steed & Co. Wonderful to see the effort that's gone into these stunning new restorations - a vivid new life for the series.
