Today in #MusicHistory 1960, Elvis earned his first gold record, weeks before his discharge from the US Army. The award celebrated his self-titled second studio album, originally released in October, 1956. It featured three Little Richard covers, including “Long Tall Sally” & “Rip It Up”, several new country ballads, and the hits “Love Me” and “Paralyzed”. Elvis spent 4 weeks at the top of the Billboard albums chart, making him the first artist to have two albums reach No.1 in the same year. Here, he performs in his hometown of Tupelo in front of his parents and 15,000 fans. Since the population was only 8,000, the rest of the crowd was fans who turned up to celebrate his homecoming. #rocknroll #music #throwback #theking
