@OriginalPeejay Gbam! We earlier had some fanatics saying Jos belongs to the Hausa-fulani, presenting some fake documents and proclamations in a bid to teach us our history. That’s what prompted me to make this thread. Up next, is Berom history.

@ejykmykel1 @charity_mbah Tinubu use the muslim Muslim tickets to get into power now everybody is suffering due to the choices of some few who claim to be the majority. Until we continue to agitate and see Nigeria beyond religion we'll keep suffering. Both religions are try to take the glory of Nigeria.

@OriginalPeejay For centuries we’ve been living together on the plateau as “pagan tribes”, before colonial rule or the idea of forming Nigeria. 🇳🇬

Indigenous People of Plateau. Vol 1: Who are the Mwaghavul people? AKA Sura. They have lived on the Jos Plateau long before any emirate drew a map. Their horses, their gods, their blood, and their crosses tell a story. Let’s talk about them. A thread🧵…

So when anyone tries to claim Jos belongs to one group, remember the Mwaghavul. They rode in on horses. They held off jihad. Buried their dead with ritual and honor, carved civilization out of rock and rain. Plateau is theirs as much as anyone’s and the history says so.

Jos is NOT Hausa-Fulani land. It is a multilingual, multi-ethnic heartland with deep, layered roots.

They are classified under West Chadic A3 — the same linguistic family as the Ngas, Mupun, Kofyar, and Chip. Three of Africa’s four major language families; Afro-Asiatic, Niger-Congo, and Nilo-Saharan; have converged, overlapped, and interacted on the Jos Plateau for centuries.

Their most important festival, Puus Kaat “a day of gathering” is still celebrated in Mangu today. It marks the agricultural calendar, expresses gratitude to God for harvest, includes rituals to induce rainfall, and brings Mwaghavul from around the world back home.

They rejected Islam through warfare. They accepted Christianity through curiosity and conquest — on their own terms, in their own time. Today, about 80% of the Mwaghavul are practicing Christians, but their pre-Christian world is still alive in language, festival, and memory.
