Just a few years after this period, Trump would gain national attention through the redevelopment of the Commodore Hotel into the Grand Hyatt New York and the construction of Trump Tower, which opened in 1983. These projects helped establish the public image of Trump as a celebrity developer and media personality. What's striking in hindsight is how little indication there was that this young real estate entrepreneur would eventually become one of the most recognizable and polarizing political figures in modern history. By the time he entered politics decades later, his name had already become a global brand appearing on buildings, books, casinos, golf courses, and television shows. When this photo was likely taken, the average Manhattan apartment sold for well under $100,000.
