@TheRealHoz35 What’s the context? Theres a place in baseball for each of these guys. I’d hope to have multiple in my lineup. And if I only had one, I’d put each of these guys in a different spot in the lineup

@Coachhedge @STL_Stats_Facts Gotta disagree here Coach. Modern data and focus on pitch tunneling is creating more pitchers than ever before - with a MUCH smaller strike zone than previous decades.
And runs per game has stayed roughly in the ballpark of what we’ve always seen. Hitters are keeping up.

@STL_Stats_Facts Even IF they do throw harder they don’t know how to pitch - just throwers - lucky for them most batters today are just hackers - very few professional hitters anymore

It's funny when former players keep saying that players aren't throwing harder today despite the radar gun saying so.
MLB has been using the same MPH tracking system since 2008 and velo has increased 2.9 MPH since then.
Even Pujols said pitchers definitely throw harder now.

@TheRealHoz35 To go a step further - Nico had a chase rate of 34.5% of balls he saw in a 3-ball count.
Honestly not sure how much meat is on the bone there as far as # of BBs, but we can't reward contact skills in that situation

@TheRealHoz35 Get the sentiment, but Nico made contact with 269 pitches outside of the strike zone last year. Don't have exact ranking, but with 20 %ile chase% and 99%ile whiff% I'd have to imagine it's high.
I appreciate a productive out, but you're telling me he couldn't turn some to BBs?

Question for all my new age baseball students out there ……
How in 2025 did Nico Hoerner finish 2nd in batting average but 23rd in OBP in the national league?
If not drawing walks is your answer please provide his whiff% and provide his contact percentage on swings he made in 2025 and where it ranks amongst NL hitters.

The play didn’t start with the glove drop - it ended with it.
