Honest, sincere, somewhat self-conscious question here: how old is too old to be at shows? And I mean non-legacy bands. I’m not talking about like Thursday or Converge. I mean, specifically, younger bands and smaller venues (Ben Quad tonight). (1/2)

It is necessary to filter soundspam and getting the language right for a policy like this is hard When they say that music "generated wholly or in substantial part by AI" is not welcome, that is understandable in the case of a bot posting 1000 generic songs a day. That is a spam issue. I am also compelled to push back against banning human artists for experimenting with an era defining medium

I genuinely think as a society, our attention spans are so fucking cooked. People at this point cannot allow themselves to be engrossed in a story unless it has plot twists at every corner. This extends beyond tv, just every media format.

@HowlingFawkes I'm not about the have the sampling is stealing argument here but, no, it's not even remotely the same conversation. The very act of sitting there manipulating a sample takes infinently more creativity than just prompting a LLM to make it for you.

Next time someone say music has a "high barrier to entry, so AI music good" point to vaporwave. This genre was BUILT on people taking ripped songs from YouTube and slowing them down in Audacity and what was so gorgeous about it is what story it told about the person who made it.

AI will never match the human creativity, the unexplainable way our minds combine things can never be put into a vector database and tokenized. I take insane amounts of pride in what I make, I don't care if it's not as complex or catchy as the best pop songs because I MADE IT.
