#potato planting at pace in West Midlands this week. Soil temperatures around 5-6C but soil conditions are very good. Great weather forecast for next 7 days at least. There’ll be a lot planted next week.

Still finding an annoying amount of late blight in West Mids - on crops that have been treated every 7 days from 15-20% ground cover.

Companion crops of peas and beans growing well in this #potato crop.

@Adrian__Baker An increasing problem in potatoes as well.

Picture doesn't show it enough really, but of 9 beds of onion trials, the only row not lost to bean seed fly damage had force seed treatment on. The rest without were eaten through April by the maggots.

@PotatoHouseUK You can’t really offend anyone by referring to “potatoes” when in polite company - and only slipping into your favourite vernacular in the pub - “tatties” or “spuds” - they’re all fabulous!

There are so many things journalists could be asking politicians now, but fail to quiz them properly in the run up to the GE. My first question is simple. Tatties, spuds or potatoes? We need an answer! Give your best politician's answer without offending anyone!

Also some crops in Norfolk/Suffolk where opportunities to travel have been very limited.
