[BREAKING NEWS] Court Hears Ekurhuleni City Manager Kagiso Lerutla Allegedly Paid R10,000 to Have Dead Body Removed from Scene of Fatal Crash He Caused in Black Mercedes G-Wagon Kagiso Lerutla, Ekurhuleni City Manager, faces fresh allegations linked to a 2021 fatal crash as the State opposes his bail application in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court. On 14 May 2021 at about 00:10, Lerutla was allegedly driving a black Mercedes G-Wagon, registration JH 60 JB GP, eastbound on the N12 in Bedfordview when it collided with a Hyundai, killing the other driver on the scene. Two EMPD officers attended the scene and arranged for Lerutla to be transferred to hospital for alleged serious injuries. He was treated and discharged the same day without admission. The culpable homicide case, Bedfordview CAS 106/05/2021, was closed as withdrawn on 28 August 2023, but the physical docket is missing from SAPS storeroom. Reconstruction of the docket is advanced, including a probe into its disappearance. At the scene, a tow-truck driver was allegedly offered R10 000 by Lerutla to remove the deceased’s body before other role-players arrived. A statement supports this claim. These details form part of the State’s affidavit opposing bail for Lerutla and co-accused Julius Mkhwanazi on main charges of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice. The bail hearing continues, with proceedings postponed to 25 April 2026. Both accused remain in custody.
