The powdered wig and knee breeches are comfortably worn. The pragmatic politics of Nelson Rockefeller are forlorn. When the nation yearns for a Republican Renaissance, I'll be reborn. William Pitt the Younger still lives, there is no need to mourn. The Tories shall not be torn.

The Mark Carney example seems to suggest that what Democrats should actually do is convince Jerome Powell to run as a Democrat.

It would be nice if there was something like Wikipedia, but for pictures of people. I know there Wikipedia commons. If something like this already exists, please let me know.

A victim of the internet age: pictorial biographies of politicians. In this example, a Tory MP compiled a friendly picture book about the life of his leader, Edward Heath. Featuring Heath in his youth, playing piano, lounging on a garden chair, and so on.

Your periodic reminder: When Europe was almost 100% Catholic, no rulers followed Just War teaching, and virtually no popes rebuked them. They often joined them. Only when the Church is marginal and gains no benefit does it chime in, moralizing irresponsibly.

Europeans are not "blocking" US supersized pick up trucks, they are for sale here. We do not buy them because of three reasons. 1 - They are poorly made 2 - They are unreliable 3 - They are stupid ft.com/content/3eb796…

I oppose the draft and think the selective service system is stupid, but this automatic registry thing is just fear-mongering. For all intents and purposes, America doesn't have a draft.

There was a time before Brexit when the UK completely dominated European banking to the extent the European Banking Authority was located in London. Now all gone, wasted and thrown away by the lies of Brexit.

New EU rules coming in next year will "restrict the ability of non-EU banks to provide core banking services to clients in the EU from outside the bloc". irishtimes.com/business/2026/…

It's fascinating that only a democracy is interested in collecting these things from their people. I know dictators collect some of these, but democracies want all or nothing.

"I have nothing to hide." False. You have medical history. You have financial behavior. You have location patterns. You have political views. You have relationship data. Privacy was never about hiding crimes. It was always about owning your life.

A man walks into a bar and orders a whiskey. Instead of staying inside, he takes it out to a bench in front of the bar to enjoy it. As he’s sipping his drink, a nun walks by, stops, and glares at him. “How can you pollute your soul with the Devil’s drink like that?” she asks. The man shrugs. “It’s not the Devil — it’s just whiskey.” “But it’s sinful and wicked!” He looks at her and says, “How do you know? Have you ever tried it?” “Of course not,” she replies. “My sisters and the Mother Superior have told me all about it.” “But how do they know? Have they ever had a drink?” They go back and forth for a while before the nun finally sighs. “Well… I suppose if I tried just a sip, I could better understand how it corrupts the soul. But it wouldn’t do for anyone to see me. Could you order it in a teacup?” The man nods and heads inside. He walks up to the bar and says, “Two whiskeys — one in a teacup.” The bartender slams his hand on the counter. “Is that damn nun here again?!”

Facebook ruined the internet. From the destruction of privacy through data mining, the decimation of forums, to the people it brought online and their hate-filled views - it has left nothing but misery in its wake.

The idea that the great man persists throughout the ages is one of the disasters of the democratic mind. The international businessman would not be a warrior or statesman in another era. Donald Trump is no Crassus, he would be a failed jester or highway robber.

I can add one that you should never read. Never, ever, ever pick up The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Most boring book ever. Trust me. He literally makes comments like 'Tis nice not to have dust in your eyes walking down the street.' and it just goes on like that.
Modern Caesar@ModernCeasar

Biographies every man should read: - Hitler by Ullrich - Life of Sulla by Plutarch - Life of Caesar by Plutarch - Napoleon by Andrew Roberts - The Confessions of St. Augustine - Titan: The Life of John Rockefeller - Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacson What else would you add?
