A Study of Solomon's Knot Independent Research by Rob Wright

The 1980s carbon dating of the Shroud of Turin produced a medieval date that has been widely cited as definitive proof the relic is a forgery. Randall Carlson argues the result cannot be trusted on methodological grounds - specifically, the question of which part of the Shroud was actually sampled. The Shroud has undergone multiple repair jobs across its history, introducing sections of cloth significantly younger than the original linen. If the samples submitted for carbon dating came from a repaired section rather than the original fabric, the resulting date would reflect the age of the patch rather than the age of the Shroud itself. Randall has assembled extensive material on the testing protocols used, and considers this sampling problem serious enough to render the medieval dating inconclusive rather than definitive.
