A young mother is grappling with unimaginable grief after losing one of her twin sons in a tragic accident on Monday.
According to reports, the late Kato died when a school van belonging to Train Up A Child School was involved in a crash in Bugolobi. The accident left several other children nursing physical injuries and emotional trauma, with parents and the wider school community deeply shaken.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the injured pupils were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment. Counselors have since been called in to support the surviving children, many of whom witnessed the horrific incident.
The loss has sent waves of sorrow through the family, especially for the mother who must now navigate life with one twin while mourning the other. The school administration has expressed condolences and pledged to cooperate fully with police investigations into the cause of the crash.
But what caused the school van to crash, and were all safety regulations for pupil transport being followed? Was the vehicle regularly serviced, and was the driver properly licensed and trained for transporting children?

Very sad and unfortunate scenes in Ugandan Football were witnessed yesterday at Hamz Stadium after a NEC FC player got an injury and needed urgent medical attention in hospital, only to find out that the ambulance that had to save the situation lacked some equipment and also had a flat tyre.
A land cruiser had to save the situation.

Keep Left unless Overtaking!
Did you know that driving in the right-hand lane (overtaking lane) of multi-lane roads while not overtaking is a traffic offense?
The right lane on a multi-lane road isn’t for speeding cars but for others to pass.
Sticking in the right lane forces other drivers into the unsafe illegal practice of overtaking on the left.
Will you please Keep Left except when overtaking? It’s for everyone’s safety.

@M_Kananura I think we need to have the road first, 🤔 otherwise, keep left, unless over taking. #2

This is a serious issue that needs urgent attention.
Road width is one of the prominent challenges raised by road users along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
From motor vehicle drivers, Boda-boda riders, school kids to law enforcement officers that we interacted with during the Kampala to Gulu road safety awareness walk, road width was among the most repeated challenges to safety on this highway.
Here’s another driver in Kakooge town narrating his experience. We interacted during the Kampala to Gulu road safety walk in March 2025.
