One of the best comedy specials I’ve seen in a while. And his Conan podcast appearance is hilarious.
Kevin Nealon@kevin_nealon

The New York Times took the time to watch my new special Loose in the Crotch and write a thoughtful review. Means a lot. __ Confession: Even though Kevin Nealon has been a successful comic for four decades, I did not realize how funny he was until I heard him on Conan O'Brien's podcast. Every one of their episodes is a master class in comic riffing. But this superb special shows an even more off-kilter side to the blandly affable former host of Weekend Update on SNL. There's a hint of Mitch Hedberg in one-liners like "This is the irony of life: My wife got pregnant on a pullout couch." Or when he quizzes audience members, asking them to name the most stressful job. "Air traffic controller," he answers authoritatively, before pausing. "But not if you don't take it seriously." Nealon is a terrific joke writer, alert to paradox, statements of the obvious and the silliness of language. His casual and patient delivery finds laughs in the sneakiest places. In a bit that comes off as something from early alt-comedy, he says less than a few seconds into his set that he's "got to wrap it up." Like the word-drunk comedians David Letterman or Norm Macdonald, Nealon delights in throat-clearing transitional phrases ("Get this," "Got a minute?") and finds more comedy in mocking cliches than in finding clever takes on unusual subjects. He digs into well-worn territory like self-checkout or pets, but invariably detours into pure nonsense. "When my grandmother died, it totally shocked us," he says quietly. "She'd never done that before."

Here’s an uncomfortable truth about the Epstein accusations: We only find them morally reprehensible because of Christianity. Before the spread of Christianity, “civilized” Greek and Roman elites openly flaunted underage s*x slaves. This was normal. Emperor Hadrian built an entire city in honor of his favorite boy. We’ve heard for decades that Christianity is a barrier to moral progress, but if you undercut the moral foundations of Christianity from the West, culture reverts back to pagan norms.

Guitar harmonies, for when the boys are back in town! Leave it to the machines to play second fiddle with the EHX Pico Intelligent Harmony Machine. Just set the Key and Harmony mode and you'll be looking over your shoulder to see who's playing with you in perfect harmony.

I think AI companies have overhyped their ambitions. I don’t think it will be doing all our jobs for the foreseeable future. AGI ain’t coming. We’ll have to cure cancer ourselves. I’m happy to change my view but the incremental progress of LLMs has been underwhelming.

Researchers have mathematically proven that the universe cannot be a computer simulation. Their paper in the Journal of Holography Applications in Physics shows that reality operates on principles beyond computation. Using Gödel’s incompleteness theorem, they argue that no algorithmic or computational system can fully describe the universe, because some truths, so called "Gödelian truths" require non algorithmic understanding, a form of reasoning that no computer or simulation can reproduce. Since all simulations are inherently algorithmic, and the fundamental nature of reality is non algorithmic, the researchers conclude that the universe cannot be, and could never be a simulation.

Here are Tesla’s current five largest shareholders (excluding Elon Musk) and how they voted in last year’s ratification of Elon's 2018 pay package: • Vanguard (holds $115B in $TSLA): For • BlackRock ($95B): For • State Street ($52B): Against • Fidelity/Geode Capital ($30B): For • JPMorgan Chase ($21B): For Unlike last year’s ratification vote, Elon and Kimbal Musk can both participate in this year's 2025 CEO Performance Award plan vote due to Tesla's reincorporation to Texas (from Delaware). BUT, we should not get complacent. Assume this vote is close and encourage everyone you know who is a $TSLA shareholder to vote. 8 days left.

The Lord wasn’t surprised by Adam and Eve’s rebellion. He knew what lay ahead. He also knew that once sin entered the picture, they would need each other in a deeper, more critical way. We all inherit a shared birth defect from them. Not found in textbooks, it’s written into human history: incurvatus in se, Latin for “curved in on oneself.” Want a quick glimpse? Try making toddlers do what they don’t want to do. This inward curve isn’t learned, but it quickly becomes a practiced, even refined, behavior—damaging to ourselves and others. Once we belong to Christ, the Spirit begins the lifelong work of uncurving us—bending us outward toward others. Marriage is one of the Spirit’s favorite workshops for this holy labor, where discipleship shifts from egotism to “other-ism.” Marriage requires sacrifice: not getting my way, sharing, caring for another’s needs, fidelity, truthfulness, vulnerability, forgiveness. It’s a daily death to self, so the Spirit might raise us again in the image of Jesus. Marriage, then, is a God-given school of discipleship. Yes, it has joys. And yes, it has valleys. In those low places, we may cry out, “What is this you’ve done to me?” That question is okay. The Psalms are full of “Whys” and “How longs?”—honest laments offered to a Father who welcomes them all. But amid our laments, let’s remember: Jesus never said, “Take up your champagne and flowers and follow me.” He calls us to take up our crosses. And as we do, the Spirit will never leave us, but work in us—often beyond our understanding—to wound and heal, to kill and enliven, forming us into the image of our crucified and risen Lord.
